Creative thinking is using your imagination or ideas to create something innovative.
How can I be more creative?
Many people ask themselves this question. Creativity is the result of your brain’s work. You probably know that there are “left-brained” or “right-brained” people. Well, it’s certain that being creative is tightly linked to the right side of the brain (the right brain hemisphere).
Still… How can I be more creative?
I will reveal to you some nutritional tricks that can help develop creativity. We are not all equally creative but this skill can develop if you’re ambitious. Regardless of the situation, think outside of the box and try these 3 methods to develop your creativity.
Step 1. Try complex carbohydrates
Unlike simple carbohydrates, like sugar, the benefits of complex carbohydrates are well-known. Our body digests them throughout the whole day (they are slowly digested) and they are a quality energy source for the brain. If you feel that you have little energy after a meal, the cause may be simple carbs, that is why you should substitute them with complex carbs.
Some of the foods that contain complex carbohydrates and can help you boost your creativity: wholemeal bread, oat, brown rice.
Step 2. Consume fatty acids
The term “fatty acids” can be a little scary at first, but I can assure you that these acids play a crucial role in the proper functioning of the brain. You do agree that in order to develop creativity our brain must work at its maximum capacity, don’t you?
Now, the benefits of fatty acids can be seen in creativity. These acids help us process lots of information, which is essential to creativity.
Some examples of foods rich in Omega 3-6-9 (another name for fatty acids): hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, olive oil, avocados, coconut oil.
Step 3. Do not ignore the benefits of antioxidants
What are antioxidants? An antioxidant is any vitamin, mineral or nutrient that repairs and protects the cells in your body. In other words, your body is already protected against free radicals, which, in large quantities, are very dangerous. This also applies to your brain, the one responsible for creativity.
One bonus benefits of antioxidants is that it improves your immunity. A strong immune system will prevent you from getting sick.
For a boost of creativity you have to try some of these foods: berries, citrus fruits, green tea, broccoli, dark chocolate (85% cocoa or more). Besides the fact that it boosts creativity, an article in Psychopharmacology has proved that green tea also improves short-term memory.
